SPEAKER_01:

Welcome to HTM on the line. I'm your host, Bryant Hawkins Sr. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to be in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Uptime Services Dental Summit held September 18th through the 28th. And let me tell you, it wasn't just another conference. It was a space where the future of dental service and technology was on full display. Over the next four episodes, you're going to hear conversations I recorded right there at the summit with leaders and companies who are pushing boundaries, solving problems, and reshaping how technicians, providers, and patients experience dentistry. And today we're starting with Dexas. They're not just building imaging equipment, they're creating an AI-powered digital ecosystem that's changing the way the industry operates. Here's my conversation with Jerry Weiss from Dexas. Okay, we're live at another HTM on the line. Today we're at the Uptime Services Dental Summit. And I'm here with a special guest, Miss Jerry Weiss. How you doing today, Jerry?

SPEAKER_00:

I'm doing well. Thank you. How are you?

SPEAKER_01:

I'm doing great. So, Jerry, tell us who you with, who are you working with?

SPEAKER_00:

I work with Dexas.

SPEAKER_01:

And Dexis is a corporate I do.

SPEAKER_00:

We produce imaging and technology for dental practices.

SPEAKER_01:

Great. And that's nationwide, worldwide.

SPEAKER_00:

Worldwide. Wow. Yes.

SPEAKER_01:

Where's your corporate office based?

SPEAKER_00:

We have a corporate office on the East Coast in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Okay. West Coast is in Brea, California.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, great, great, great.

SPEAKER_00:

And then we have multiple countries around the world where we have offices.

SPEAKER_01:

That's great. Now, let me just ask you this question about operations. What problem does your company solve for technicians or healthcare facilities?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, for healthcare facilities, Dexys offers a digital ecosystem with an all-in-one AI-powered platform. This combines our 2D and 3D imaging as well as intraoral scanning and diagnostics. It makes treatment planning easier. It increases the workflow for the office. And just overall is a better diagnostic tool for practitioners as well as patient care.

SPEAKER_01:

Awesome, man. So AI. So how does AI come into play when with the equipment like does it make it faster or it does?

SPEAKER_00:

AI helps the day run smoother for the patient and the provider by doing multiple things. First of all, from a staff perspective, when you're taking images or something, the AI will automatically identify teeth and mount x-rays. And these are things that take time for the staff. And then in addition to that, it also helps identify pathology within the patient's dentition to uh increase the production and the case acceptance for the office.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. So AI is not replacing the technician. It's more or less assisting or making their job more proficient.

SPEAKER_00:

Correct.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay.

SPEAKER_00:

AI didn't go to dental school.

SPEAKER_01:

Some people would think they did.

SPEAKER_00:

They still need that practitioner.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, great, great. That's good to hear because a lot of people are afraid that AI is going to replace them.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't think that in this case it will be anytime soon.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, okay. Now, how does your equipment make installation and maintenance easier for practitioners, doctors, technicians?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. So DEX is pretty unique, I feel, in our support system for our offices. First of all, right from the get-go, we offer a 60-day guarantee. If you're not happy within 60 days, then you know, we don't give you any hassle. We will return that equipment for you. And then on the on the other side of that, there is also a contract. With one contract, we can warrant put all of your equipment on a warranty, which makes that much easier for offices as well. One of the things I think is most valuable as far as maintenance and installation is a lot of manufacturers don't have the ecosystem that we have in that regard. So when someone purchases their equipment from us, we are a whole team behind them. It starts with their sales rep, but then their sales rep has this support team, which is our team, to help them. And we have across the nation, we have 26 service technicians that are experts in our equipment. We have over 21 trainers, regional clinical trainers, who come in and train you on all of the equipment. And then we also have Texas Connect, which is where that equipment can let us know without you maybe even knowing that there's a problem and we can be proactive in prevention for you.

SPEAKER_01:

Wow. So it's like remote monitoring, pretty much. Yes, yes. Oh, that's great. Okay. So you and Charlotte, this is your first time in Charlotte.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. So you're at the summit. Now, what are you showcasing today at the summit?

SPEAKER_00:

So one of the things is that's really exciting for us is we just launched our newest scanner. It's called the Imprevo. It works with ScanFlow 2, which is an uh increased, more robust version of our original scan flow. It's faster. It's uh more ergonomic for the clinician and more comfortable for the patient. It does a really good job with uh soft tissue scanning, which can often be difficult. And it has a 25 millimeter depth, meaning that you can get more of the structure right from the tooth surface when you're scanning.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay. Maintenance on this unit, because of course we're at a maintenance per se summit. How is it as far as a technician working on this equipment?

SPEAKER_00:

Is it It's pretty, pretty cut and dry, honestly. I mean, one of the nice things about Texas equipment is their workhorses. However, should you need anyone to come in, you can call our tech support and we could oftentimes just remote into the unit and help you remotely. Should you need, should they not be able to do that, they would then dispatch a technician and we would come out live and see what's going on.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay. What trends do you see shaping the industry in the next few years, if you had to say?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, of course, we already discussed AI, right? Yes. AI is everywhere. So I think AI is going to have a huge influence on our industry and all other industries. And then technology in general. And technology is always evolving. The really nice thing about Dexis is we're always on the forefront of that evolution process and looking for ways to enhance practices and patient care and workflow and put a lot of time and energy into that research and development. So I think a combination of AI and just increased technology evolution.

SPEAKER_01:

Great, great. Well, I appreciate your time, Jerry. Anytime you want to come back on HTML Online, you're more than welcome.

SPEAKER_00:

Thank you for having me.

SPEAKER_01:

That was the first episode in our special four-part series from the Uptime Services Dental Summit in Charlotte. But that was only the beginning. Tomorrow, I'll bring you my sit down with Toot Nower and Dental Collective. Two groups that are proving collaboration is the new currency of growth in this industry. You won't want to miss it.
